No matter how careful a person is about their oral health, stains on the teeth develop over time from food, drinks, and tobacco, which makes the teeth look darker and older. For a boost to their appearance and self-esteem, many patients use Opalescence tooth whitening systems to safely remove stains from their enamel and whiten their teeth several shades. Opalescence offers several options to help each patient with their individual needs and goals. Patients can choose between home Opalescence teeth whitening kits and in office whitening treatments. All Opalescence whitening systems use potassium nitrate and fluoride (PF) to strengthen the enamel while whitening for stronger, healthier teeth.
What to Expect
Depending on which system, the patient chooses, the dentist will go over specific directions to help the patient get their best result.
- Opalescence PF: take-home whitening kit in several concentrations and three flavors that are used with custom mouth trays that can be worn for 30 minutes – 8 hours
- Opalescence Go: home whitening kit with prefilled, disposable mouth trays that come in three flavors and should be worn 15 – 90 minutes per day for 1 – 2 weeks.
- Opalescence Boost: an in-office whitening treatment that use 40% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel to remove stains without lights or lasers in under 60 minutes.
To help maintain their results, patients can ask their dentist about the best home oral care routine, which may include Opalescence whitening toothpastes in addition to flossing and mouthwash. The dentist will talk to each patient about food and drinks that should be avoided or what can be done to minimize stains and maintain their new, bright smile. Bi-annual cleanings at our office will also help remove tougher stains.
Similar to most cosmetic procedures, Opalescence is generally not covered by dental insurance, however our office offers financing and we take several forms of payment. The patient’s cost and financing options can be discussed during the patient’s consultation with the dentist.
